Luigi Rosselli Architects has revitalized an Art Deco harbor-front property near Sydney’s waterfront, transforming the space through adaptive reuse while maintaining its historic elegance. Completed in 2014, the project retains the original foreshore building and moved the new house further back from the water, maintaining a prime view of Sydney Harbor. The design includes a copper-rimmed roof opening that introduces light into the deep terrace, a curved façade reminiscent of the 1930s, and interiors customized to display the clients’ art collection, enhancing its distinctive and elegant quality.
The curved facade is reminiscent of a 1930s Art Deco residence, contributing a distinctive character among neighboring properties. The formerly barren parking area has been transformed into a densely landscaped entry courtyard. The house comprises four floors with a surrounding balcony offering prime views of Sydney Harbor. A copper-rimmed hole in the flat roof brings light and air into the deep terrace, creating a unique architectural feature.
The interior design reflects the clients’ art collection needs, incorporating expansive wall spaces, nooks for sculptures, and refined decor. The integration of these elements creates an environment that exudes subtle decadence while maintaining the artistic essence of the property.
