Stone Hut, a residential project designed by José Lobo Almeida, has transformed a 15 m² shack into a cozy, functional shelter. The conversion, completed in March 2020, features new glazed openings framing views of the surrounding woods and access path.

During the pandemic in March 2020, a young couple decided to convert an existing 15 m² shack on their farm into a small shelter.

The transformation involved creating two new glazed openings in the stone masonry walls to frame views of the pine and chestnut woods to the northeast and the access path to the southwest.

The toilet areas are located on either side of the entrance door, which was preserved.

A new fireplace was added on the opposite wall, positioned between the dining and resting areas. The new ceiling and floor slabs are constructed from solid stone blocks, and the carpentry is crafted from chestnut wood sourced from the farm. Brass elements and fabric elements made of burel complete the material palette.

The result is a cozy and functional shelter that harmonizes with the surrounding landscape.
