Shops of Summerhill, redeveloped by AUDAXarchitecture, combine a contemporary addition with heritage commercial buildings, creating an urban pedestrian environment that fosters interaction. The design takes cues from the original structures, seamlessly transitioning between public and semi-public spaces. Gathering areas, entry points, and spaces for spontaneous activities encourage pedestrians to pause and engage with their surroundings. The facade’s diverse materials are scaled to enhance the pedestrian experience.
The redevelopment of the Shops of Summerhill integrates a contemporary addition with existing heritage commercial buildings. This project offers a unique opportunity to create an urban pedestrian environment that encourages human interaction across the site.
The design of the new addition draws inspiration from the original structures, establishing a modulated transition between public and semi-public spaces.
Gathering areas like patios, defined entry points under canopies, and spaces for spontaneous activities, such as product displays along building edges, encourage users to slow down, pause, and reflect on their surroundings. This diverse pedestrian experience is complemented by the facade’s varied material elements, all scaled to the human level.
