Otsu House, designed by ALTS Design Office in Japan, provides a 105 m² residential space focused on creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere. The architects, working closely with the client, sought to realize a “comfy house” concept by emphasizing natural light and an inviting design. The overall aim was to craft a home that feels both warm and accessible, creating a living environment that fosters comfort for its residents.
Situated in a newly developed subdivision, the house was designed to maximize the interplay of light and space. The planning process revolved around the central theme of a “comfy house,” with the design team focusing on creating an open, airy layout that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings. The goal was establish a strong connection between the home’s interior and the outdoors.
A key architectural feature is the vault-shaped opening and the large, curved window that floods the interior with sunlight. This element enhances the home’s simple yet rhythmic design, creating a light-filled, airy atmosphere. The ample natural light combined with the curvature of the window creates a fluid, dynamic experience within the space, drawing the outdoors in the living areas.
Throughout the day, the house offers a unique experience by allowing residents to observe the changing patterns of light and shadow. Sunrise and sunset cast varying visual effects across the space, contributing to the overall comfort and warmth of the home. This thoughtful integration of light ensures that the home offers and ever-changing, cozy living environment.
