Notariaat, a notary office designed by Atelier Vens Vanbelle in Horebeke, Belgium, integrates seamlessly with the Flemish Ardennes landscape. Completed in 2009, the design emphasizes neutrality and accessibility, featuring a rough brick exteriors frame the landscape like paintings, enhancing the visitor experience.
The building site is located at the end of a small street in the village of Horebeke, adjacent to a restaurant. The site offers a splendid view, with the landscape gently sloping and providing an expansive outlook over an untouched agricultural area that extends for two kilometers.
The impressive landscape necessitates a design that embodies discrete admiration. A notary’s office must present itself in a neutral manner, ensuring accessibility for all visitors. Building in such a landscape requires a similar approach to neutrality.
This concept is realized in a rough brick volume, semi-enclosed on the street and restaurant sides. The entrance is marked by a white volume constructed from steel plates. visitors pass through this white volume into a corridor overlooking a patio on the right. On the left, the corridor bends toward a waiting room, which opens in a cone shapes to the landscape. The kitchen and offices also open similarly to the outdoors, with the serene landscape framed by windows like colorful paintings within the white interior.
The rear of the building cantilevers over the sloping terrain. Staff parking is located underneath the building, ensuring that cars do not obstruct the view from inside.
