Monolot Offices, designed by Anna Koukolová Architekti, transformed a former electrical cable factory in Praha’s Holešovice district into a functional office space. Completed in 2023, the 127 m² project features a minimalist industrial design with white-painted structures and exposed, whitewashed bricks. The office layout includes several rooms created by a new extension and retains connections to the original renovated section from 2020. Key elements include a glass entrance, metal construction with soundproofing, and contrasting black surfaces in social facilities.
The conversion of an original factory hall into offices for Monolot Studio was developed in close collaboration with the client. Investors Honza and David, founders of Monolot, contributed to the design and inspection days, resulting in innovative solutions.
Monolot Studio is located in a former electrical cable factory in Praha’s Holešovice district. The elevated production hall has been partly overstoryed, with the layout divided into several rooms by a new extension. The built-in volume is made of unplastered porotherm blocks with white paint. The reconstruction features a minimalist industrial spirit, with all structures painted white. The top layer has been removed from the original walls, and the exposed bricks have been whitewashed. Precise jambs were created where remnants of penetrations were found or new penetrations were made, contrasting with the raw design.
The newly created spaces connect to the original part of the offices, renovated in 2020, via two passages in the dividing wall. On the courtyard-facing side with the entrance on Dělnická Street, a separate entrance and a “command” office have been created. The new glass entrance with a glass door in a wooden frame aligns with the façade and illuminates the space. A low built-in separating the two main overhanging rooms conceals restrooms, storage, and a pass-through kitchen.
The office areas are roofed by the background and feature an inset floor of metal construction with soundproofing. The loft towards the office is finished with a glass partition in a profiled split timber frame. On the dining side, the loft has a railing of white-painted ductile iron in a banded timber frame. A narrow wooden staircase leads to the first floor, hidden behind the kitchen storage area. Near the dining area, remnants of Luxfer glazing were found and added, creating a large square window that illuminates the common areas. In contrast to the white spaces, the social facilities feature black surfaces, including the porotherm blocks’ coating.
