Laguna Gallery, designed by Estúdio 41 in Curitiba, Brazil, is a 1020 m² commercial space completed in 2021, where light plays a central role in enhancing the visitor experience. Situated on a narrow lot amid heavy traffic, the gallery utilizes a double-envelope facade of white polycarbonates and aluminum-acid-etched glass to create a serene atmosphere across its three floors. The design strategically uses light to promote well-being, making it an inviting space for daily gatherings and acting as an urban beacon at night. Intended to be a refined environment for reflection and decision-making, the Laguna Gallery aims to enhance the experience of future property owners and provide a qualified space that fosters well-being and community interaction.

The project’s initially challenge was how to design desirable visuals on a narrow lot with walled sides, located on a street with heavy vehicle traffic.

The architects proposed two solutions: creating an underground garden along the perimeter to establish a new environment, and using translucent materials that allow light to enter while obscuring the interior views.

The building follows the geometry of the lot, with parking situated at the back and the storefront near the street.

The program is distributed across three floors: the ground floor houses a cafe/bar and visitor reception, the basement includes areas for models, meetings, and brokers’ work, while the top floor showcases decorated apartments.

The facades are constructed using a double-envelope system. The exterior layer is made of white alveolar polycarbonate, while the inner surface consists of aluminum and acid-etched glass.

The building is assembled with a prefabricated concrete structure, which organizes and supports the space without dominating it. This structure is simple and modular, supporting the translucent envelope and maximizing the potential of natural light.

The design’s intention is for the commercial space to exude a subtle, unique luminosity, creating a tranquil atmosphere that encourages reflection and decision-making for prospective property owners.
