Kjerringholmen Cabin, designed by Line Solgaard Arkitekter, is a 62 m² holiday home situated on a small private island in Hvaler, Norway. Completed in 2022, this project demonstrates that a compact space, when smartly planned, can offer a high quality of life while respecting the natural environment.
Line Solgaard’s latest cabin project, “Kjerringholmen,” is located on a small island in Hvaler, Norway. The clients purchased this private island to build a holiday home. This cabin shows that large houses do not necessarily equate to a better quality of life. Despite its 62 square meters, the smart planning provides ample usable space.
The construction stands on steel pillars to minimize landscape disturbance, extending the indoor space into the beautiful outdoor area. This approach, “build smaller, build smart,” emphasizes treating nature with respect and maintaining a small ecological footprint, a mindset common in Norway where outdoor living is valued.
Building near water necessitates an understanding of the environment, rewarding residents with a unique natural spectacle throughout the year. The cabin appeals to all senses, with attention to detail making it special. The design philosophy emphasizes working with nature rather than against it.
The wooden cabin is small, detailed, cozy, and efficient, designed to harmonize with the outdoors. Emphasis on the connection between exterior and interior, views, and bay windows enhances this harmony.
