House in Mouzinho de Albuquerque Square / Carvalho Araújo

Casa na Praça Mouzinho de Albuquerque embodies the outcome of a spatial organization exercise within an urban plot characterized by a complex configuration.

Located in one of the main squares in Braga’s historic center, the project prioritizes preserving the existing volume and façades, along with certain characteristic interior elements. The intervention aims to accommodate a family program tailored to current spatial needs and facilities, using the existing volumetry as a guiding principle for space distribution and design.

A new construction at the back of the plot diverges from the formal and aesthetic language of the existing structure. This addition represents both a rupture and continuity with the original building, extending the material of the floor and the back façade while asserting its distinct architectural identity.
