Garden House, designed by Vécsey Schmidt Architekten, occupies the site of a former large barn from the 1970s. The boundary wall merges with the garden house wall, and a cornice transitions between the wall and the steep roof, with matching ornamentation on the gables. The house features a simple floor plan and archetypal shape. Minimal interior interventions allow for year-round use. Double swing doors can create three distinct spaces, while two large attic gates preserve the structure’s airy character.
Until the 1970s, a large barn stood on the site where the structural work of the garden house was erected. The boundary wall seamlessly merges with the wall of the garden house. Atop the wall, a cornice provides a transition between the wall and the steep roof, with the cornice’s ornamentation also present on the covering of the two gables.
The simple floor plan and distinct shape give the garden house an archetypal appearance. Minimal interventions inside the building enable year-round use.
Each corner of the space serves a specific function, and the double swing doors can be fixed in three different positions to create three distinct spaces: a space extending through the entire building, a central space with niches next to the windows, and a central space with a main view through the front doors. Two large gates in the attic allow the gable to open, maintaining the airy character of the structure.
