Encosta House, a residential building designed by SIA Arquitectura in a coastal area, creates a unified design amid a fragmented landscape. Completed in 2023, the house frames views and integrates private spaces with the exterior, extending the living area into the surrounding sand and shade.
The architects described Encosta House as a project where the terrain is defined by its boundaries within a densely occupied area. the landscape is contained within the lot, maintaining the beach underfoot. The compression of the dune, between the walls, transforms the terrain into an inhabited space.
The house itself acts as a boundary, framing the view. Despite the fragmented program, the design aims for unity. The rhythm of the almost blind volumes constructs the periphery. Each unit-room, patio-serves as a secluded space for rest.
Private spaces are enhanced by their connection to the exterior. The living room extends into the sand, under the shade, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living areas.
