Edificio de Viviendas, designed by Mateo Arquitectura in Barcelona, Spain, is strategically located in a small passageway in the city center and was completed in 2013. The building integrates layers of glass, stainless steel, and wood to create a facade that balances privacy with noise reduction, addressing the need for protection from the busy urban environment. Historically, neighbors in the area shielded themselves with thick walls and balconies; in contrast, this design employs lightweight materials to form a protective yet transparent boundary. The facade is constructed with an interior layer of glass and stainless steel and a close exterior layer of wood that can be adjusted as needed. This layered approach not only acts as a filter between the residential interior and the bustling city but also contributes to the building’s urban identity, offering a controlled urban living experience.

The architectural approach aims to accommodate domestic life within the densely packed city center, where the challenge is to manage and moderate transparency. The facade’s design effectively balances openness with the need for privacy, ensuring the building harmonizes with its surroundings while offering residents a controlled and secure living space.
