Blues Head Office, designed by Dehsar Works, transforms a former warehouse site into a dynamic and creative workspace. Located in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the office features innovative design elements to accommodate long working hours, offering playful and functional spaces for meetings and collaboration.
The site of the current “Blues H. Office” was previously occupied by a warehouse. When “Blues” decided to move their office adjacent to this warehouse, the initial plan was straightforward: to create a typical workspace accommodating 30 to 40 workstations. However, after laying the foundation, they reconsidered and opted for a more innovative approach.
“Blues” management approached the architect to design something unique. The aim was to create a creative and playful office space with various areas for meetings, conferences, and casual meet-ups. Given the long working hours of Blues employees, the design of “Blues H. Office” was tailored to their needs.
Materials and construction details:
- Pre-fabricated metal exoskeleton as the main frame.
- Tri-layered polycarbonate sheets to provide thermal comfort and reduce cooling load.
- Double-glazed glass facade to minimize heat gain and enhance indoor-outdoor connectivity.
- Floor slab with poly concrete deck panels.
- Pre-fabricated wooden panels as floor finish materials.
- RCC and brick used only in service blocks to reinforce the metal exoskeleton.
The design features a compact service arrangement to create an open environment for work and activities. This layout provides spacious areas for work and group tasks while ensuring efficient service management, cost reduction, and ease of maintenance. To reduce costs and maintain the original footprint, the existing concrete foundation was utilized by fabricating a metal structure over it. VRF air conditioning and a centralized service block are placed within the building. The high ceiling and large transparent glass facade allow natural light to penetrate the core of the building, with light reflections changing throughout the day.
At night, the Blues Communication Limited office is illuminated by white LED lights, making the building shimmer and interact with the vibrant surrounding neighborhood. The office provides all necessary facilities, including seven parking spaces, vehicular and pedestrian access, vertical and horizontal circulation, and ample greenery to enhance the workplace environment.
