AEAJ Green Terrace, a new facility designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates in Tokyo for the Aroma Environment Association of Japan, features an innovative structure resembling a tree made from Japanese cypress sections within a glass enclosure, enhancing the aromatic experience. This facility, juxtaposed against the iconic Yoyogi National Gymnasium by Kenzo Tange, contrasts traditional and modern architectural elements, offering expansive views of Jingumae woods.
AEAJ Green Terrace: New facility for Aroma Environment Association of Japan. The design resembles a tree, constructed from small section pieces (105mm×105mm) of Japanese cypress, encapsulated within a glass box based on the theme of wood aroma. This box is filled with the wood’s scent, allowing for a fragrant experience throughout the facility.
The primary structure comprises a steel frame, tailored to approximate the dimensions of the wooden sections, enhancing the overall delicate and unique textural feel.
The terrace, resembling a balancing toy, offers a panoramic view of the Jingumae woods. The design integrates small wooden particles, crafting a structure with an ambiguous, craft-like profile, contrasting with the Yoyogi National Gymnasium by Kenzo Tange, visible across the railway tracks.
