Architizer announces the launch of Competition Competition 2011, the second annual architectural award that chooses its winner from the losing competition entries of the previous year. Every year architects submit thousands of projects to competitions without receiving recognition or compensation for their work; this award is a do-over. It is an extension of Architizer’s mission to revolutionize the way architecture is valued and consumed.
Last year, Architizer received over 650 entries. This year, the site expects to receive many more, thanks in part to a prestigious jury that includes architecture world heavyweights Amale Andraos (Co-founder, Work Architecture Company [WORKac]), John Beckmann (Founder, Axis Mundi), Felix Burrichter (Editor/Creative Director, PIN UP Magazine), Olympia Kazi (Executive director, Van Alen Institute), Jing Liu (Co-founder, SO-IL), and Dung Ngo (Senior editor, Rizzoli Publicaitons). One winner and five runners-up will be chosen. The Competition Competition 2011 winner will receive a $1500 cash prize in addition to extensive editorial coverage on Architizer.com’s news section. An exhibition in late March will honor the jury’s selection. Submissions will also be viewable in an online gallery hosted by Architizer.
Entries are easily uploaded to Architizer and there is no fee to take part. Competition Competition 2011 is open to anyone who did not win a first prize. Uploads must be submitted by February 20th, 2011.
