ResilientCity.org Design Ideas Competition Winners Announced
ResilientCity.org just announced the winners of their design ideas competition that hopes to stimulate new ideas about the way we plan cities and design buildings.
The competition resulted in more than 50 inquiries and 22 formal entries received from around the globe, including proposals centered on cities in India, Mexico, Israel, Tibet, Germany, as well as the USA and Canada. “Many of the entries presented very credible and implementable solutions that could be utilized today to move our cities towards greater resiliency,” said Craig Applegath, founding member and moderator of ResilientCity.

Spanish architect Alberto Campo Baeza has designed the Andalucia’s Museum of Memory located in Granada. A very good attempt of creating the interesting spatial experience through an elliptic central court which is designed to connect 3 levels spaces via the featured circular ramp.

Urban SHED – International Design Competition
The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) and the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIANY) today announced that 273 designers from around the world have registered for the urbanSHED International Design Competition. The competition seeks to develop a new standard of sidewalk shed design that improves the pedestrian experience while maintaining or exceeding the required safety standards in New York City.

BIG to Design Shenzhen International Energy Mansion
Copenhagen-based BIG, in collaboration with ARUP and Transsolar, was awarded the first prize in the international competition to design Shenzhen International Energy Mansion, the regional headquarters for the Shenzhen Energy Company.

Captain Concept – Archinect Interviews Michael Jantzen
The artist and designer Michael Jantzen has added another structure to the surreal panorama made of his alternative-energy social and living spaces. This latest addition —Sun Rays Pavilion — is an oblique gathering area made of 12 precast concrete columns towering 150 feet tall. The Pavilion’s flat roof, as it were, faces south.
